Cunninghame ramblers. Hadyard Hill circular near Dailly. August 2014

Making our way up Hadyard Hill

Out on the moors

Todays large group

Aye the leader has to make an appearance!!
Today Cunninghame ramblers went to Dailly for a 9 mile circular walk up Hadyard Hill with myself as walk leader. This was a great honour as only yesterday my membership to this group was confirmed by the Ramblers Association. 23 of us met in the village square on a fairly pleasant dry sunny morning which was a tremendous change from the last three days which were extremely wet and dreich for this time of year. A good steep climb took us all onto the ridge high above the village and  the summit with its wonderful views of the Clyde and South Ayrshire .A short break was taken here where I pointed out a lot of the landmarks and other walking routes  the group may consider for the future. Dropping down into Hadyard wind farm we had a stop for lunch before coming to the Barr road back to Dailly. As we approached the village a light shower of rain came on so I decided to go through the Lindsayston woods which  gave us some shelter before arriving  back safely at the start. Not many photos today as I was the leader so my time was spent navigating a safe and dry route over the tops of the moorland. Thanks to all  who turned out today I cannot decide if it was me or the fact that you have all been kept indoors for the last three days that such a large group turned up for my first walk as full member of this esteemed group.Thanks.

Madam Vice with the furry hat was our leader
Today Saturday November 9th I met up with South Ayrshire ramblers for a 7 mile circular walk round Hadyard Hill wind farm high above Girvan and Dailly. 23 of us left from the car park on a cold blustery morning along good roads until we reached Penwhapple Resevoir where the route then took us up a gentle climb to give the group some lovely view looking back over Girvan and out to Ailsa Craig..After a coffee stop we continued on the road until we came to  Maxwellston Hill  where the walk became a wee bit more strenuous up the side of the hill to the summit to allow us a view over the sea as far as Northern Ireland. Taking care on the slippy descent we stopped at an old deserted cottage for our lunch break before the short climb to Green Hill with more superb views this time over the local countryside. Again our leader warned us of the slippy conditions as we made our way down to the resevoir and back to the cars at the start. One small shower did not dampen the spirits of this group as we all gave Madam Vice a vote of thanks for a very pleasant day out when areas close by were obviously  getting the worst of the weather.
There will not be any new blogs for a few days as Anne and I are off to sunnier climates for a wee holiday but on our return I propose to publish a resume of the holiday.

As I was involved in organizing yesterday's walk I will use the blog to assist the leader in his report for the local press.May I also mention that the Newton Stewart Blogger was absent due a prior engagement, his blog composition and jovial banter were sorely missed by all of the group (well nearly all)!!
On Saturday August 24th Wigtownshire ramblers travelled to the pretty South Ayrshire village of Dailly for a circular walk up Maxwellston Hill (314M) and over to Hadyard wind farm. On a clear warm sunny morning 18 walkers including two visitors from Ayr met at the village square where the leader gave us a  description of the walk including local points of interest we would encounter on our way. Leaving the village the group made a steady climb up  Hadyard Hill (324M) onto a moorland ridge which gave us our first views of the surrounding countryside. Crossing over onto Maxwellston Hill the ground was fairly soft and boggy due to the recent heavy rain that fell on Friday evening.A steep descent took the walkers down to Hadyard wind farm with it's large white turbines making a loud swishiing noise as they generated their power for the national grid. Lunch was taken beside a little stream that ran into the nearby Penwhapple resevoir which today had several fishermen in little boats enjoying their sport on such a lovely day.Passing through the windfarm we eventually came out onto the single track road that runs from Dailly to Barr. After two miles we turned off into Lindsayston Woods with it's well maintained paths back into Dailly to end a super day in the South Ayrshire hills.
Our next outing is on Saturday 31 August when we will  travel to Loch Braden in Ayrshire for an 8 mile circular walk. please meet at Breastworks car park ,Stranraer at 8.45AM or Riverside Newton Stewart 9.15AM for car sharing or alteranatively if going direct to the start please contact the walk leader on 01776840226 who can also give any further details you may require.New members always welcome.
