Walkers  gather at the Maidens car park.

Coffee stop at the old "Glenside Station"

Madam Vice collecting outstanding subscriptions!

Making our way up Mochrum Hill.

A comfort stop at Culzean.

Admiring the swans on the pond. (RHS seems like a nice boy!)

This is the why it is called "Swan Pond"

Wonder if there are any Cheltenham pointers here?

Walking the Maidens shore.

Now what is my e mail address? In joke!

Todays large group.

Our leader having a wee paddle.
Today Ayr and District Ramblers met at the Maidens to do a 10 mile walk through Culzean Estate and up to Mochrum Hill(270M). This is a walk I have done with the teacher back in January 2012 and one I always enjoy. Today 35 walkers left the start on a cloudy calm mild morning and made our way along the old railway line to   Glenside Station where we had a coffee stop before climbing up to the summit of Mochrum Hill. Unfortunately today due the low cloud we could not see the wonderful views you normally get from the top of this small hill. Making our way back down we arrived back in the grounds of Culzean Castle estate where we had our lunch stop.Passing through the visitor centre we  then made our way to the castle and the swan pond before going out on to the cliff path back down to the Maidens shore and return to the car park. Excellent day with lots of good banter amongst the many walkers with special thanks to the leader who had the difficult job of trying to keep such large group on the move. Thank you sir .

  1. Lovely account Gordon,
I've been going to go to the Cheltenham Festival (I've actually been to the races, but never during the festival) for the last 40 years. I've got free accommodation, so I don't know why I don't go. Maybe next year.
    See you soon.
