Today Thursday August 9th the teacher and myself rose at the crack of dawn to catch the 7.00AM ferry to the the beautiful Island of Arran to do a recce for this Saturday's walk with Ayr and District Ramblers when I have the honour of being the walk leader. This is an 8 mile grade "A" strenuous walk covering 5 peaks over 8 miles. It was a clear warm sunny morning when we set out from a quaint little hamlet named Thundergay to start our climb but not long after the start we were rewarded with fantastic views of Islay and Jura out to our west. I am not going to go into too much detail but will leave that for Saturday when I will do a much fuller blog. We had the most wonderful day out on the mountains and if we get similar weather on Saturday we will have the most memorable walk on an island that has so much to give the keen hill walker. Thanks to the teacher for helping me out today, he has just returned from a Baltic Sea cruise with a little bit of excess weight, soon got rid of that today in the heat!!
