Elite walkers from Maidens to Mochrum Hill. January 2012

Lots of storm damage on the old railway line.

The pillars of the old Rancleugh Viaduct .

On summit of Mochrum Hill (270M)

On the battle ramparts of Culzean Castle.
Yesterday 31st January the Elite walking group met at the Maidens on a very cold frosty misty day. All well wrapped up the group followed the path through Culzean past Glenside Farm to the summit of Mochrun Hill. On our way back down to the shore at Goats Green we passed the remaining stacks of the Rancleugh Viaduct which carried the railway line over the glen. The teacher kept us fully informed of the history of this bridge and the surrounding areas of railway. When the whistling of the group stopped (in house joke) we made our way along to the castle where we had our lunch stop in the courtyard of the Home farm before going along the cliff path back to the cars to end an 8 mile walk on a winters day in excellent company as per usual.
