Yesterday ADRC met at Seamill for an 8 mile linear walk to Largs Marina. 28 of us left the village in warm glorious sunshine along the shore towards Portencross Castle and the cliffs known locally as the three sisters standing high looking out to the wee and big Cumbrae islands.On this route you pass right past the perimeter fence guarding the sinister looking Hunterston Nuclear Power Station with all its buildings emitting a strange humming noise.Once we arrived in the quaint village of Fairlie a leisurely lunch was taken basking in the unseasonally warm sunshine before our last 2 mile stretch that took the group to Largs boating marina with its fine array of large yachts.Here the walkers were given an option to either go for the bus back to Fairlie or alternatively carry on to the town for coffee or more importantly beer at the newly opened branch of Wetherspoons. No guessing which group I was in. HA HA.Thanks to the farmer for organising a great walk in what was the most perfect weather to see this beautiful part of the west coast of Scotland.

1st walk leader of 2015. 
Yesterday Tuesday January 6th Cunninghame ramblers 1st mid week walk of 2015 was  10 miles from Seamill shore to Goldenberry Hill returning via Hunterston power station  and Portencross castle.14 of us met in the beach car park in the wind and rain but our intrepid leader informed us it was the the end of a large shower and the forecast was to dry up and be a nice sunny day. Once we were all togged up for the weather off we went along the shore with the wind in our faces so any cobwebs from the new year were soon blown away. Once at West Kilbride the rain stopped and the sun made an appearance to give is wonderful views of a snow capped Island of Arran. A good climb up Goldenbery Hill got the heart pumping even at the moderate rate of this group who lets say are advancing in years a little bit.There is a lot of construction work taking place at the power station so 2 mile diversion was taken via Hunterston Castle to get us onto the track to Portencross Castle which was to be our lunch break. During our lunch a very sinister looking nuclear submarine made an appearance on the surface of the water to observe us all tucking into our sandwiches.A nice long shore walk got us back to the start apart from a couple of showers most of the walk had been in glorious winter sunshine. Thanks to the leader once again for working out how to get us round the power station without upsetting the security guards who were watching our every movement as we passed around the perimeter of this most secretive establishment.

Muggie was the  walk leader.

After the exertions of earlier it was a quick shower and something to eat before setting  off to Ardrossn to join Cunninghame ramblers on their 6 mile summer evening walk from Ardrossan to Seamill . 15 fellow walkers set off from the shore on a lovely warm sunny evening up a short steep incline to start giving us the wonderful views out to Arran  and even the Paps of Jura were visible. A gentle walk along the tops took us to West Kilbride and the  lovely restored Glen trail down to Seamill  onto the shore back to the cars. This was an excellent idea of the group to organize an evening walk one that hopefully could be repeated again next year. Thanks again to our leader and all who took part it was a great end to a rather full day of walking for the teacher and myself. Wetherspoons provided the late night well earned refreshments!!
